Imagine a brand new baby, all wrapped up in a blue or pink blanket, with a whole life stretching ahead of him or her. This was you, way back when. This amazing little being, (you), came into this world with an incredible, self-healing and self-regulating body. You quickly figured out how to breathe, how to suck and swallow, and how to eliminate. You learned how to work your eyes so you could focus on the faces in front of you. You had everything you needed to regulate your body temperature, to know how much and how often to breathe, to know how much and how often to eat, and to have an inborn desire to move and stretch your muscles.
Yes, it took a little time for all these amazing mechanisms to fully mature, but you were born with all the capacities for you to function fully and well for many decades. Your amazing immune system was perfectly designed to protect you from harmful intruders and your fabulous body came equipped with the ability to repair and replace worn out and damaged cells and tissues. You were designed to be healthy.
You were also born with a built-in hunger mechanism to regulate your food intake to keep it balanced with your energy output. You were designed to be slim.
The sad truth is that we have been programmed to get fat and sick!
We’re also programmed to think our health has almost nothing to do with our food and lifestyle. When we don’t feel well, we’re programmed to go to the doctor and get drugs or have surgery rather than thinking about how we can support our self-healing bodies to do what they were designed from conception to do.
And we’re programmed to look for sophisticated scientific reasons why we’re fat and sick. We look for a bad gene to blame for all our problems.
According to cellular biologist, Bruce Lipton, Ph.D., less than 5% of our illnesses are truly genetic. Yes, it’s true that we can have a genetic predisposition to gain weight, or to get cancer or heart disease. But this predisposition doesn’t mean we WILL get it. Genetics may load the gun, but it’s our lifestyle that pulls the trigger.
This is actually GOOD NEWS! We are not powerless over our physical health. We don’t have to live in fear, wondering when the “big one” is going to happen in our lives. Even though we were programmed by our culture to get fat and sick, we can decide today to turn that around. But how?
