Which is it? Does food have anything to do with your weight and health, or doesn’t it?
Because of what happened yesterday.
Here’s the story:
I’m in the car on my way to Alyeska Pipeline Company to present my lunchtime talk, “It’s the Food!” I’ve prepared thoroughly, with lots of research studies to back up my message: A diet of whole, unprocessed plant foods supports good health and can prevent and often reverse the diseases that kill most Americans: heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. And while accomplishing this amazing task, this same diet can prevent and reverse obesity, which is also killing us!
Charlie’s driving, so I decide to check my email on my cell phone. Hmm . . . here’s an email encouraging me to attend a free webinar to show me how to lose weight. It’s apparently about how to develop a healthy attitude about food and myself. After several bullet points, it ends with this statement: IT’S NOT THE FOOD!
Okay, okay . . I actually do get it, partly. But this is still a ridiculous statement!
I totally agree that “going on a diet” and counting calories is not the answer. That just leads to feelings of deprivation, food obsession, and an endless and disheartening cycle of losing and gaining.
I also agree that we need a healthy, loving, accepting attitude toward ourselves.
And I know we need to learn to handle our emotions better so that we no longer turn to these unhealthy foods to numb ourselves to our stress, loneliness, anger, or grief.
So it’s not either/or. It’s BOTH. It IS the food! And it’s more than the food.
But I think we do everyone a huge disservice when we don’t tell them how important food is to our health. To me, that’s like keeping it a secret that smoking damages your health.
I want as many people as possible to know what they can do to help themselves be healthy, slim, and happy. So here’s what I have to offer:
I have a live nutrition and cooking course called: The Yes To Life Solution to Get Slim & Healthy. For those of you living in this area, I invite you to register soon. Click here for more info.
For those of you who don’t live near Anchorage, I offer online video courses to help you learn this lifesaving information wherever you live! The Yes To Life Nutrition & Cooking course.
And for those of you who know you need help with MORE than the food, check out my coaching program: Coaching/Mentoring Support.
So my answer is, YES, It’s the food! AND, it’s more than the food. In order to be healthy and happy, we need to take care of our body, mind, and spirit.
