I didn’t realize I was basically asleep until the squirrel woke me up!
My mind was spinning with all I need to do today. But I decided to take a quick paddle around the lake before breakfast before diving into it all. I’ve made a real effort to take advantage of this beautiful summer, and it’s days are numbered. With early fall colors on the trees surrounding the lake, I know there won’t be too many of these days left.
So I grab my binoculars and sweatshirt, walk down to the lake, scootch down into my kayak and begin paddling around the lake. The familiar rhythm of my paddling is soothing, and soon I am back in my head:
Suddenly, I hear a splash just over to the right, next to the shore. Then lots of splashes! Is it fish jumping? We don’t have that kind of fish in this lake. What is it?
As I paddle closer, I see things falling from the sky down into the lake. What in the world . . . ?
“Plunk.” “Plunk, plunk.”
During the rest of my brief time on the lake, I enjoy watching the parent loons feeding their 3/4-grown chick.
Thank you, little squirrel, for your “Yes to Life” reminder today.
