My mantra for the last 15 years has been “Say YES to life!” which is why I chose it as the name of my business. It helps guide my choices AND my attitude, and I’m grateful for all the good I experience living this way.
I have now added a new mantra — not instead of YES to life — in addition to it.
This new mantra came from a live training event I attended last week-end (I’ve been attending LOTS of these events over the past 18 months, learning all I can about how to share my gifts more effectively in the world.)
We all have our stories. But who wrote these stories? And whose life are we living? So often, it can feel like we’re just along for the ride as our life takes its twists and turns. We’re born into a culture that tells us what it means to be a boy or a girl. We’re born into a family that tells us whether we’re rich or poor. We choose a job or career that tells us how far we can advance. We’re born into a country that tells us who are the good guys (us) and who are the bad guys. And if we were born in a different place, at a different time, the story we’re told about ourselves would be very different.
How much more empowering would it be to decide that “I am the author of my own life!” My life is my own story to write.
There are so many different parts of our lives, and so many different stories we tell about them. Our relationships, our finances, our health. And we can decide to take over the authorship of each of these stories.
In my 20’s, the story of my health was a depressing one. In fact, it could be considered a tragedy. I lived with debilitating pain much of the time, and fear that it would just get worse forever. Doctors couldn’t provide any hope for me — in fact, I was told I would go blind because of the terrible, chronic inflammation in my eye. They prescribed powerful drugs to control the symptoms, but the inflammation and pain kept spreading to more parts of my body.
My 26th birthday was one of the lowest points of my life because my future looked totally hopeless. This was not the life I wanted to be living, but I had no idea what to do about it.
Then, one day soon after my birthday, I woke up with a strong voice in my head saying, “This craziness has to stop!” This is the day I decided to become the author of my life! I decided to write a different story.
I had no idea what to do, but I decided to start with the one thing I could think of: To eat the most healthful diet I could. And trust that my body would know how to heal itself.
So you can see now why I’m so passionate about choosing healthy food. It’s about choosing a healthy life! And deciding to be the author of our own lives is what allows us to pick up the pen and begin to write a new story.
This is why I’m committed to helping others choose a healthy diet, to create a new story of health, energy, and empowerment. If you’d like my support, contact me Click Here.
So no matter what the story of your life has been so far, it’s never too late to step in and say, “This is my life! I’m the author of my life. And I’m going to start where I am and begin writing a different story.”
I'd love it if you'd share an experience of being the author of your life!
